Sensex Performance

Today, the Sensex opened 256.58 points higher, a 0.31% gain, moving from yesterday’s close of 80,235.59 to an opening of 80,492.17. During the day, the Sensex touched a high of 80,683.74, which was 448 points above the previous day’s close. It also hit a low of 80,319 before closing at 80,539.91, down 144 points from its intraday high. Out of the top 30 companies in the Sensex, 20 closed in the green, while 10 traded in the red, lower than their previous close.
 

Nifty Performance


The Nifty opened with a 131-point gap-up, moving from yesterday’s close of 24,487.40 to an opening of 24,619.35. During the day, it hit a low of 24,535.25 and a high of 24,664.55, which was 177 points above the previous day’s close. Notably, today’s opening was close to the Nifty’s closing on August 11 at 24,585.05. For context, a week ago, the Nifty was trading at 24,574.20, and a month ago, it was at 25,149.85. Based on today’s closing of 24,619.35, the Nifty is still trading 530 points below its level from a month ago. Out of the Nifty 50 stocks, 36 closed in the green, while 14 were in the red. The Nifty is currently trading at a PE ratio of 21.68, while the Sensex is at 22.59.
 

Market Breadth


A total of 3,061 stocks were traded in the Nifty today, with 1,685 stocks closing above their previous day’s close (in the green) and 1,287 trading below (in the red). Additionally, 51 stocks hit their 52-week highs, while 59 touched their 52-week lows. In terms of circuit breakers, 99 stocks hit the upper circuit, and 59 were in the lower circuit.
 

FII and DII Activity (August 13, 2025)

FII AND DII BUY AND SELL CHART
 
Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought stocks worth ₹13,464.55 crore and sold ₹7,782.91 crore, resulting in a net buy of ₹5,681.64 crore. On the other hand, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their selling streak, purchasing ₹10,702.19 crore and selling ₹14,266.68 crore, resulting in a net sell of ₹3,564.49 crore.
 
Sector-Wise Performance

Let’s look at the sectors that saw buying activity today: 
- Defence Sector:     Stocks like BDL, GRSE, and Astra Micro saw significant buying. 

- Capital Market-Related Stocks: Stocks such as BSE and Angel One also experienced buying interest. 

- Healthcare, Pharma, and Tourism Sectors: These sectors also saw buying activity. 
 
On the other hand, selling pressure was observed in the following sectors: 
- PSU Banks 
- Oil and Gas 
- FMCG 
- Energy 
 

Top 5 Stocks with Unpredictable Volume Surge 

 
1. TECH
This is an ETF managed by Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC, linked to the NIFTY IT index. With buying observed in the IT sector today, we may see continued interest in IT stocks tomorrow. The ETF recorded a volume of 2,510,191, which is 99 times higher than its one-week average volume of 25,161. It opened 2.49% higher at ₹37.81 (previous close: ₹36.89) and saw significant volatility. The day’s high was ₹37.81, and it closed at ₹37.02. This ETF is trading 26% below its 52-week high.
 
2. NSLISP
This stock from the iron and steel sector saw significant volatility today, with a volume of 9.67 crore, 66 times higher than its one-week average. It opened at ₹40.04, hit a high of ₹43.2, and closed at ₹43.02. The stock is trading 24% below its 52-week high.
 
3. HONASA

Belonging to the personal care sector, this stock also saw notable volatility with a volume of around 2 crore, 57 times higher than its one-week average. It is trading 47% below its 52-week high.
 
4. EIHOTEL
From the hotel and restaurant sector, this stock recorded an unpredictable volume surge of around 1 crore, 43 times higher than its one-week average. It is trading 5.27% below its 52-week high and may touch a new 52-week high tomorrow.
 
5. PREMEXPLN
 
This stock from the explosives sector saw a massive volume of around 58 lakh, 17 times higher than its one-week average. It is trading 23% below its 52-week high.
